Cerebus™

32 to 128 Channel Data Acquisition System
The CEREBUS data acquisition system is a scalable embedded on-line system for recording and processing neural signals for up to 128 extracellular electrodes. The front-end modules amplify, pre-filter, and digitize the neural signals and transmit them by fiber-optic data links to a central neural signal processing module.
The neural signal processing unit contains an array of up to 8 data signal processors for final filtering and
on-line analysis of the neural signals. The neural signal processor module then transmits the processed data to a host PC system via Ethernet data link.

Data Acquisition

  • Up to 128-channels of unit responses to be stored as spike waveforms, or continuous waveforms on a PC
  • Additional analog and digital inputs can be used to record experimental and environmental data, such as stimuli onset and offset or the position of a joystick.
  • The data acquisition provides user-friendly control interfaces with auto or manual thresholding for spike extraction
Filtering and Noise Reduction
  • High and low pass filters with cut-off frequencies at .3 Hz and 7.5 kHz
  • The 5th order Butterworth filtering aggressively rejects extrinsic noise

Software

  • The Cerebus™ data acquisition software provides on-line or off-line classification of single-units from multi-unit activity on each electrode
  • User-generated time-amplitude templates are used to classify up to 128 channels of data
  • The output provides the recorded data in the form of identified time-stamped unit activity
  • The Spike Panel, Raster Plot and Activity Map displays allow the user to better visualize the experimental data

Sorting and classification of up to 128 spikes
