Recording neural activity in freely moving animals can be challenging. One of the major challenges is the cable tangling due to animal movement, which can risk the implantation, affect animal behavior and signal quality.

A slip-ring, also known as a motorized commutator can solve the problem. The device allows the transmission of power and electrical signals from a stationary to a rotating structure while preventing tangling.
